1) Someone who wants a new adventure?something different.
2) Someone who wants to build a resume, no matter the
salary.
3) Someone who wants to earn a little traveling money.
4) Someone who thinks they can earn a decent living.
Groups 1 through 3 don’t care what the dollar sign is in their salary. They have other sources of income like savings or parents who help support them while they are in Mexico. These are the most transient. Here today, promising their employers a year contract, and gone tomorrow. Some employers will not hire these “floaters.” Schools would love to hire those with ties to the community but they are rare.
Group 4, people who think they can make a living, do not accept the reality that you can rarely make a living at teaching English in Mexico.

‘Pregnant women CAN eat peanuts’
FOR years, many pregnant and breast-feeding women have carefully avoided peanuts fearing they will increase their child’s risk of developing a nut allergy. This followed a government warning in 1998 to women with a family history of asthma, eczema or hay fever.
But a Portsmouth University study, published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, followed first-time mums until their children were two and found avoiding peanuts made no difference to whether their tots became sensitised.

A.M. Best Downgrades Ratings of Business Alliance Insurance Company

OLDWICK, N.J. — A.M. Best Co. has downgraded the financial strength rating to B
(Good) from B (Good) and issuer credit rating to bbb- from bbb of Business
Alliance Insurance Company (BAIC) (San Bruno, CA). The ratings have
been placed under review with negative implications.
The ratings of BAICs parent, Public Service Mutual Insurance Company
(PSM), the lead member of the Magna Carta Companies (Magna
Carta), as well as the other members, are unchanged.
The rating actions follow the unexpected outcome of a hearing held on
July 26, 2010, in which the court ordered PSM to return shares of BAIC
to its former owners within 60 days, despite the stated opposition to
the ownership change by its former owners. The expectation was that the
hearing would direct the parties to develop a schedule that would allow
PSM to pay the former owners of BAIC a yet-to-be agreed upon value and
for BAIC to remain with Magna Carta. This ruling presumably ends the
long litigation that began in 2005 over a dispute concerning the terms
of a proposed sale of the company from BAICs former parent, National
Farm Financial Corporation, which is owned by the Chao Family Trust, to
PSM. With this court ruling, BAIC will cease to benefit from the
ownership of PSM, including intercompany reinsurance, infrastructure and
management support.
The ratings of BAIC will remain under review until transfer of ownership
is finalized. At that time, A.M. Best will likely remove the company
from under review and either further downgrade or affirm the ratings
following discussions with BAICs management regarding plans for the
company.

So, what did these kids do for a living?
The most fortunate working children were hired on as apprentices for the major trades of the era. Some of these trades would include:

*Tinsmith

*Leatherworking
While the children were still required to work, and sometimes required to work long hours, they were at least lucky enough to be learning a profitable trade, which offered hope to them for their future.
Younger children might have started out working as street sweepers, ?scavengers? or by selling newspapers. Scavengers were children who searched through trash, rubbish and refuse for items they could sell to junk stores, or even to their neighbors. Some of these items might have included pieces of rope, or metal scraps.
Still other children were put to work in more dangerous conditions.
